earl grey latte w/ lavender simple syrup
Nothing better than a big, cozy cup of tea on a rainy day in.
While a good cup of joe, or a cafe con leche will always hit the spot, I’m a sucker for tea. And this take on the classic London Fog latte will have you on cloud nine in no time! I make this latte using almond milk (as I do all my lattes) because I have never been a fan of regular milk. As a child, my parents would have to disguise milk with Nesquick in order to fool me into drinking it. And now as an adult I can do as I please haha!
INGREDIENTS / TOOLS
- earl grey tea (i used loose leaf tea, but i’ve also used bagged tea before)
- water for tea
- milk of choice (i used almond)
- frother (i got my hand frother from ikea, super affordable!)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons food grade lavender buds (i got mine from Whole Foods in Chelsea, NY | amazon sells them as well)
- glass container or mason jar
DIRECTIONS FOR LAVENDER SIMPLE SYRUP
- In a small saucepan, add 1 cup of water and sugar. Mix and bring to a boil.
- Once the sugar is dissolved, remove from heat and add lavender buds. Stir.
- Add simple syrup mixture into your glass container. Place in fridge, and leave to steep overnight.
- After 24 hours, remove from fridge and strain the mixture.
- You’re left with a lightly floral and versatile lavender simple syrup! Enjoy!
DIRECTIONS FOR LATTE
- Bring water to boil, pour over your earl grey tea and steep for 3 - 5 minutes.
- Heat up your milk, add lavender simple syrup to taste.
- Use your frother to froth up the milk. Pour your the milk into your tea. Garnish with lavender buds if you want and enjoy!
